Just to let you know the working title of my book-in-progress:
From Oxford to Ku Bua: a trader’s manual. MS Beinecke 408.
My analysis of folio 86v will first establish the text’s geographic range and offer the framework within which to understand the relationship between its evidently diverse sections: diverse both in content and in style.
The book will end with an historical essay, but the focus will be the manuscript’s imagery, as it has been in this blog. Some particular sections of the manuscript are critical to its understanding, and largely for that reason have not been treated in these blogposts. I regret that this retention should have been necessary, but it was more convenient than expecting every passing person on the internet to learn and acknowledge the usual standards and scholarly ethics.
