Wolves and seaweed – short-attention-span-version

The “Hermits of St.Jerome” are said to have begun from a monastery at Lupiana, which means ‘wolf-place’.

Unlike the Italians of that name, the Spanish Hermits are noted for an interest in medicine.

Another Italian originally-Spanish group, known popularly as the”Blues” were interested in medicine, too.

This second group became united with another which had been established in the lagoon at Venice, at a site known as St.George ‘in the seaweed’.


and there you are. that’s the short attention span version.

The longer one, showing why on earth these groups should matters a bean to Voynicheros will follow.. soon…  That longer version will be fairly long, because it provides background, illustrations, and scholarly apparatus.
